The American Athletic Conference has announced the formation of a COVID-19 Medical Advisory Group, which comprises medical professionals from each of the Conference’s member institutions. The group is chaired by Dr. Greg Stewart, director of sports medicine at Tulane University.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) -- High Point graduate pitcher Harrison Smith (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) has been voted the Big South Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2020 as part of the league’s announcement of this season’s Baseball All-Academic Team.  The award was voted on by the Big South’s sports information directors.

Georgetown University baseball alum Chris DeMarco (MSB'84) lives in New York City, near Mount Sinai Hospital. He was out walking his dog last month when he saw hospital tents being constructed across the street in Central Park across the street from Mount Sinai to help alleviate the overflow from the COVID-19 cases.

Stetson has just one game on the slate as its weekend series against Penn was canceled due to the Ivy League calling-off all competition for its conference members due to the Coronavirus.

WICHITA, Kan. (fgcuathletics.com) – FGCU baseball senior Alex Brait was tabbed to the official watch list for the 2020 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, as announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission on Tuesday evening. Brait is the first player in program history to be considered for the prestigious award, which is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher.

ATLANTA, Ga. - Kennesaw State's Nick Hassan was named ASUN Conference Baseball Player of the Week while Jacksonville's Trent Palmer and Stetson's Chris Gonzalez claimed the ASUN Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors, announced Monday by the league office. Hassan helped the Owls to a 4-1 week to earn Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Palmer and Gonzalez both tossed complete games with 13 strikeouts.

DALLAS – Southern Miss senior right-hander Walker Powell threw a complete-game shutout at McNeese State on Saturday, striking out six batters with no walks to earn the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week award.  The C-USA Hitter of the Week honor went to Louisiana Tech junior OF Steele Netterville, who batted .556 with two doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI, while scoring eight times.  All Conference USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.

ATLANTA, Ga. - NJIT's David Marcano and Jacksonville Trent Palmer claimed the third set of ASUN Conference Baseball weekly honors, announced Monday by the league office. Marcano had a .667 OBP for the Highlanders this weekend to earn Player of the Week while Palmer secured the Pitcher of the Week award after 12 strikeouts against Austin Peay for the Dolphins. Both players earned honors for the first time in their careers.

BIG EAST Baseball Opening Day 2020 has arrived. All seven teams are in action with 22 games on the docket. The season starts on the road for all teams, with Butler, Georgetown and Seton Hall playing at neutral sites. Seton Hall will also play No. 20 Wake Forest at home. DALLAS – Conference USA has announced its 2020 preseason baseball awards, as chosen by the league’s 12 head coaches.  Rice junior infielder Trei Cruz has been chosen as the preseason Player of the Year, while FIU junior left-hander Logan Allen was named the preseason Pitcher of the Year.  Southern Miss was chosen as the favorite to win the league’s championship.  The Golden Eagles won the C-USA tournament title last season.
