A Gillette man whose beating of his girlfriend and friend were captured on a nearby surveillance camera has avoided spending time in prison for aggravated assault, but he will serve 341 days in jail for interference with a peace officer. District Judge John R. Perry called the actions by Timothy Wight, 37, "absolutely reprehensible conduct" and that Wight had run out of chances with the suspension of a seven- to 10-year prison sentence for the aggravated assault.

Crook County is now involved in the battle to provide water to landowners in the Carlile area. Although the issue has not formally been attributed to work on the Madison water system, landowners whose wells suddenly ran dry or acidic last year asked for "good neighbor" assistance from the city of Gillette, whose Madison pipeline runs close to their properties.

Tarps caught fire on the Gurley Avenue overpass Wednesday afternoon as crews continued work on the bridge that has been closed most of the summer. A group tasked with securing commercial air service in the state worked Tuesday on finalizing a few key documents at its meeting in Rock Springs. The Wyoming Air Service Improvement Council, established by the Legislature this year, is working to attract more carriers to the state, especially ones that would serve at least four critical communities when the Air Service Enhancement Program dissolves July 1, 2019.
