The EIA released its weekly Natural Gas Storage Report today, outlining how national natural gas stocks have changed in the last week. In total, the EIA reports natural gas stocks rose by 91 Bcf last week, increasing to 2,004 Bcf from 1,913 Bcf. This is 27.4% below the 2,761 Bcf that was in storage at this point last year, and is 19.9% below the five-year average of 2,503 Bcf. Read More

Last week a new report was released that detailed a “stunning” production forecast for the Permian. The Permian is forecasted to more than double its 2017 oil production level of 2.5 MMb/d to 5.4 MMb/d by 2023, according to IHS Markit. However, there is a sticky problem in the Permian that producers are facing and it’s getting more acute by the day—it’s the inability of takeaway capacity to keep up with skyrocketing oil and natural gas production in the basin. Speakers at a day-long conference examining US shale oil’s short-term prospects repeatedly turned to Permian basin operations as examples of progress despite lower crude oil prices as operators reduced costs. But those same producers could face problems if transportation capacity doesn’t increase and local opposition mounts, other speakers said during the Feb. 27 event at the Center for Strategic & International Studies.

Inpex Corp. has received a 10% interest in the Lower Zakum concession offshore Abu Dhabi under an agreement with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. Inpex paid a participation fee of $600 million. ADNOC earlier awarded a 10% interest in the concession, which has a 40-year term, to a group of state-owned Indian companies led by ONGC Videsh Ltd.
